Mother and Child is an intimate-scale bronze sculpture (32 x 21 x 17 cm) whose form unfolds in a continuous loop, open at its centre — an abstract silhouette evoking the embrace, protection and unbreakable bond between a mother and her child. The single body, curved back on itself, closes almost entirely, leaving only an empty space at its heart: that of the gesture of enfolding, suggested rather than frontally represented.
Two round heads, one smaller nestled against the other, top this ring-shaped form and concentrate all the emotion of the piece. Technical feature of this work: the heads are mobile and swivel thanks to a system of embedded rods, allowing each collector to slightly reorient the faces and customise the posture of the sculpture according to their current inspiration — a continuous dialogue between the artwork and the person who owns it.
This piece is a continuation of my work on human relationships and group dynamics, here refocused on the most primary filial bond. The hammered and irregular surface texture, characteristic of my bronzes, contrasts with the gentleness of the suggested gesture, reminding us that tenderness can be born from the rawest material.
Technique and know-how. Mother and Child was created using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. The patina, as for all my sculptures, apart from the raw cast finish, can be applied hot to achieve various colours, or cold for bronze finish nuances.
A collectors' item. Thanks to its tabletop format, Mother and Child naturally finds its place on a desk, mantelpiece or console table. An original artist-created work, it will appeal to lovers of contemporary figurative sculpture who are sensitive to the themes of motherhood, connection and legacy.
