INSPIRATION

La Parenthèse freezes that moment that we accord ourselves too rarely: the moment when we sit down, suspend movement, and place ourselves on the world rather than running towards its surface. A tiny, almost insignificant silhouette in the face of the immensity of the sphere that carries it, nevertheless chooses to stop there, in balance, for a breath.

This work speaks of the need for respite — not as a flight from reality, but as a conscious act of presence within oneself. Sitting in the world rather than being in it is accepting a pause without breaking away from it: we remain present in it, in contact with it, but in a different, more contemplative disposition. It is a pause in the literal sense — a moment placed between two breaths, which does not nullify anything that precedes or follows, but gives them, in a way, all their meaning.

The contrast between the small golden figure and the bluish immensity of the sphere underscores this chosen humility: one does not need to take up much space to fully exist in the moment. Sometimes it is enough to stop somewhere and let the world continue to spin around you without being afraid of it.

La Parenthèse extends a reflection I have been pursuing for a long time about our relationship with time and the Earth, nurtured by my time at UNESCO working on the culture of peace — the idea that slowing down, sitting down, observing, is also a way of living the world with equanimity.

Made of bronze using the traditional lost-wax technique, the sphere is given a blue patina obtained through a chemical reaction at high temperature, while the character retains the natural appearance of raw bronze.
