Getting a message across through sculpture

In every work of art, there is always a thought or a conviction that the artist wants to communicate to his or her audience. Like a drawing or a painting, a sculpture is a way for the artist to convey a very specific message. In other words, they identify themselves through their work. We met an artist-sculptor who was kind enough to share with us his background and his love of sculpture.

This professional is Franco-Danish. After travelling all over the world, particularly in North Africa and Central Asia, she finally decided to return to Provence in 2002. She is a visual artist and sculptor. Passionate about sculpture and drawing since childhood, she eventually turned it into a profession.

To learn the trade and forge a real talent as an artist, she worked with many professionals and took part in numerous workshops. In 2014, she set up her own association called «361°Espace Art contemporain», which is a place for artists to meet and exchange ideas.

What are your favourite sculpting and modelling tools? Why or why not?

  • My hands for modelling, adding matter, creating lines ;
  • Modelling and carving tools to remove material, refine lines and improve circulation; ;
  • Sandpaper, sander and Dremel for chiselling and sanding; ;
  • Copper nitrate combined with colour pigments and liquid wax for the patina.
